Lea Ybarra tiene un doctorado en sociolog\u00eda de la Universidad de California, Berkeley, y ha sido profesora y administradora durante m\u00e1s de 30 a\u00f1os. Fue profesora y presidenta del Departamento de Estudios Chicanos de CSUF y administradora del sistema CSU. Tambi\u00e9n fue becaria de investigaci\u00f3n en la Universidad de Michigan, Ann Arbor y becaria en residencia en Harvard. M\u00e1s recientemente, se jubil\u00f3 como directora ejecutiva del Centro para j\u00f3venes talentosos (CTY) de la Universidad Johns Hopkins, que identifica y ofrece programas acad\u00e9micos para estudiantes altamente dotados. Bajo su liderazgo, CTY inscribi\u00f3 a 80,000 estudiantes anualmente de todos los Estados Unidos y m\u00e1s de 120 pa\u00edses. Se ofrecieron programas acad\u00e9micos en treinta campus, desde Hopkins y Princeton en el este hasta Stanford y Hawaii Pacific en el oeste. Desde su fundaci\u00f3n en 1979, CTY ha inscrito a m\u00e1s de un mill\u00f3n de ni\u00f1os en su b\u00fasqueda de talento acad\u00e9mico. El Dr. Ybarra encabez\u00f3 las campa\u00f1as de recaudaci\u00f3n de fondos de CTY que recaudaron $70 millones de d\u00f3lares para becas para estudiantes latinos, afroamericanos, nativos americanos y otros estudiantes subrepresentados.<\/p><p>Recibi\u00f3 numerosos premios por sus actividades de ense\u00f1anza, investigaci\u00f3n y servicio comunitario, su investigaci\u00f3n ha incluido temas de educaci\u00f3n, familia y cuestiones de g\u00e9nero, inmigraci\u00f3n y estudios de paz y conflicto. Ybarra nunca ha olvidado su compromiso con la comunidad.
